Properties
EDTA is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 240°C (decomposition); solubility in water is 0.5g/L (25°C), insoluble in cold water, alcohol and general organic solvents, soluble in 160 parts of boiling water, soluble in alkaline solutions such as sodium hydroxide; at 150 ° C, it exhibits a tendency to remove carboxyl groups. Slightly soluble in hot water, soluble in sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate and ammonia solution.
Main usages:
EDTA has a wide range of uses and is a representative substance of chelating agents. It can form stable water-soluble complexes with alkali metals, rare earth elements and transition metals. Widely used in polymer chemical industry, daily chemical industry, paper industry, pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, textile printing and dyeing industry, aquaculture, photographic chemicals, oil field chemicals, water treatment agents, boiler cleaning agents and analytical reagents. In addition, EDTA can also be used to rapidly excrete harmful radioactive metals from the human body for detoxification.
